We are thrilled to let you know that Melbourne Montessori School has been shortlisted for the Primary School of the Year – Non-government award at this year’s Australian Education Awards.

Each year, the award recognises Australia’s most outstanding non-government primary school — and MMS is thrilled to be a 2024 finalist.

The Australian Education Awards are hotly contested with judges taking into account consistently high standards of teaching and learning, academic and other achievements, the ongoing professional development of teachers and evidence of a school’s strong communication with students and parents.

A commitment to innovation and continuous improvement is also key for the judging panel.

Daniel Thomas says the huge achievement of being shortlisted is recognition of the hard work of all teachers and staff at MMS, and of the groundswell of support from MMS students and families.

“Anyone who spends any amount of time at MMS will clearly sense our unwavering commitment to grow each child’s love of learning and to make their educational journey joyful and purposeful,” says Daniel.

“Every day, our teachers spark every child’s interest and are integral to fostering our Montessori principles such as self-respect, self-esteem and wellbeing. Each child’s inquiring, active mind is valued and respected.”

“Our teachers and staff are a united team who understand the essence of MMS. They know what makes the school tick, they know what makes our school a special place and they know how to bring out the best in every student who walks through the gates – no matter what their background and story.”

“An equally important piece of the MMS puzzle is our community – the parents, grandparents and other family members who support our students and staff, day in and day out. This latest achievement is recognition of the depth and power of our school community.”

Lisa Stern has also been named as a finalist in the Primary School Teacher of the Year – non-government category. We also wish Lisa all the very best for the finals held in Sydney in August.
